Dabbled With Acrylics

I got the brushes and acrylic paints out again and dabbled a bit with them and created a scene that features an evergreen and lilac bush on our farm. It sort of looks similar to what we see in our yard area.

I am completely out of the white paint now and so I am not sure when I will paint more things again. I would need white as I only had six tubes and had to mix all the time to get the shades I wanted. Good thing I know that blue and red make purple. LOL

And I had a dickens of a time trying to take a photo of it. Again, this is done on the practice sheets. I don't know if I will ever be comfortable enough to try the big canvases. And, when I was done it looked like I had painted my hands as well. What a clutz! As you can see this is outside of my comfort zone. But at least I can say that I did try it!

I got some great news as well. My son and his two boys will be joining us for Christmas. I know....that is a long way off, but since they live in Japan that is a big thrill for all of our family. So we are looking forward to a wonderful get together at Christmas time. Sad though that his wife cannot accompany them as she is working on her PHD and so she is extra busy with that besides her work schedule.

Acrylic Apple Blossoms

For some reason I have been having difficulty uploading blog posts, and I don't know what to do about it. I finally got this to work for me but it has been a struggle. I hope I don't have to close this blog. My computer seems to be freezing up a lot lately. But until that happens I will post today's acrylic painting.

I actually like this one. And, yes, not really looking like the real blossoms but I still had a great time making this one. I looked at photos of calendars and the apple blossoms caught my eye. So I went with that for today's painting.

And after I had signed it, I remembered I had a fine nib on a paint pen that might work for signing my works. And, I think I need to place an order for more acrylic paints if I am to continue doing things with them. It is a nice change of pace but I still plan on being mainly a card maker.

Acrylic Night Scene

I have decided I am more comfortable doing scenes so today after I made another flower goof I finally went to a scene and I feel much better about it. It is supposed to be a night scene and I think the camera made it lighter than it really is but I hope you still can get the idea behind it.

And although it is in my comfort zone more I am still not thrilled with my paintings. I think my original idea of coloring other's artwork will still be my main way of expression in the art world. I just am not that good of an artist. And as you can see a fiber from one of the brushes attached itself in the upper left corner. I was bummed about that. I wish I had seen it while it was still wet, but it was not until I took a first photo that I noticed it. So another lesson learned....check occasionally for fibers attached. LOL

And, I need to find a smaller way of writing. I tried to use a finer brush but I still got it looking like a first grader did the signature. Of course, I cut the practice sheets smaller so that I could frame it if I should happen to do something worthy of that. So far not looking very promising. Any suggestions on how to get a smaller writing would be appreciated. I thought about a marker but that would not be acrylic.

Any other suggestions would be welcomed too as I know some of you are more expert at painting then I am. Am I being too stingy with the paint? I see some white areas showing up so maybe that might have to be changed too. But at least I had some fun doing it.

Well, it looks and sounds like we may get some rain tonight. In a way that would be good since hubby planted wheat today. That would get it off to a good start. Even snow would be good on wheat as it provides nitrogen.

Improved Acrylic Garden

I was not satisfied with that butterfly and the more I looked at it the more I knew I wanted to improve it. So I determined I had the proportions of the butterfly wrong on the first try. And, one good thing about acrylics is that you can go over and redo things. I was happy about that. I hope you like this change that I did as well.

Well, I will slowly learn. I guess it shows I did not take any art classes. LOL Well, that finishes up my day. I wanted to show the newer version. And I still want your opinions on other ways I can improve on my painting. At least I had some fun with this.

Acrylic Garden

I was gifted a set of acrylics and some practice sheets as well as some bigger canvases and many brushes. So there was no excuse not to try working with acrylics. Well, it is a good thing I have lots of practice sheets. This was my first attempt and I think it sort of looks more like something a first grade kid would do. Oh, well! It was fun anyway. Just remember this is my first try...so hopefully in time I may improve. Perhaps I should have drawn a sketch first but then I can't draw either. So why would that be much better? Hahaaa!

Isn't that a sick looking butterfly? Originally I did not have one in the painting which was the way I should have left it. I tried to make it look more realistic but I think instead I got it looking a lot worse. Maybe in my next works I will paint a bee instead or no insect at all.  I redid the butterfly. I realized that the bottom half should be larger than the top half. It looks much better now. 

I saw a similar scene done in water colors and loved it, so thought perhaps I could make it instead with the acrylics. But I must have deleted the video and now can't remember who did it either so I apologize to that talented artist. So this was done from memory.

I find the acrylics dry fast and when hubby comes in and says "Fix me some lunch. I am going in the field." I found out that by the time I had his lunch pail packed it had dried out my blotches of paint on my palette quite a bit. I might have to buy more tubes if I run out.

Well, any tips would be greatly appreciated. I need all the help I can get. Hahaaa! Thanks though for looking at it. And I will look forward to seeing what you suggest I do differently.
