I am not sure if I like this card or not but none the less it is what it is. So I am posting it on the blog regardless. I used a new stamp set from Gina K. Designs called Holly Jolly and it is supposed to be used with foiling but I thought I could get some use from it without using a foiling technique.
I embossed the holly using Versamark ink and clear embossing powder. One could also use white and have it work as well. Then I simply sponged on colors to the background. At first I just colored up the areas of the holly but I found that too dull. So I decided to add some shades of yellow and it did brighten it up some. And, adding the ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon and the sentiment helped as well. I used a red card base and added a white liner inside. The main panel is die cut with a My Favorite Things Wonky Stitched rectangle die and the sentiment used both the Gina K. Designs large and small circle stitched die sets.
Sorry I have not posted much but I accidentally cut my thumb while trying to cut up a great big squash so that I could bake it. So I had a hard time doing things as any little pressure on it hurt like the dickens. I am now able to put more pressure on it. Who knew a thumb could bleed so much?
Well, I hope your week is off to a good start. Take care and thanks for the visit and lovely comments.
God bless,
Verna

Your card is beautiful, Verna. Hope your thumbs recovers soon. xx
I feel the same about lots of my cards, but when I started the blog, I promised myself I'd post the card, even if I didn't think it was all that great (or as I call it - a wart!) This definitely does NOT fit into this category at all. I think it is very warm and colorful. I like the inner glow you've achieved with the sponging of the colors and the white embossing with the green holly looks so good. The green ribbon makes a lovely border behind the red & white medallion and I think it is a very beautiful card, Verna. TFS and hope the thumb heals quickly. Your baked squash sounds yummy! Hugs
Bummer about the cut thumb! Your card is lovely--holly is one of my favorite images!
Very pretty and happy colors and a pretty stamp set, I love all the colorful sponging, so cheerful!! Hope your thumb gets better soon, back in July I broke my little toe, and it still is giving me trouble, not sure how I will get a shoe on soon when it really gets cold out, I have had to wear the same sandals all summer...darn toe anyhow!
These colors look like there is a warm glow behind the holly. I sure like it. Hope your thumb is better. Watch for infection.
Nurse Barb! Ha ha
This is so pretty Verna. I love the pop of color from the sparkly bright green ribbon!!
Oh no, your poor thumb. I hope it is getting better and healing every day. This is a bright, happy card with beautiful sponging. The ribbon and red cardstock really dressed it up in it's holiday finery.
I like your card a lot, Verna, and to heck with foiling -- the embossing looks fantastic! The sponged colors are warm and glowing, pretty ribbon and cute sentiment. Really love the double stitched die, too. I'm so sorry about your thumb! Some squash are so hard to cut I feel inclined to take it outside and hack it with a machete. They taste so good, though! I hope the healing happens soon.
Oh Verna! I am truly sorry about your thumb! I know how difficult it is to create with a bum hand! : ( glad to see you are on the other side of it and able to craft again.
I really really like this card! I think the colors you used are so fresh and clean. Beautifully done friend : )
Hope your thumb is feeling better. That sounds as though it would be very painful...just think of how many times a day we use our hands and of course our thumbs!
Your card is pretty. I must give this embossing technique a try as it is so pretty. Your colours are so lovely and vivid and I really like that font for the sentiment.
Ohhh hope your thumb heals quickly for you Verna x.
Now I do like this glorious background. Love how you blended just the holly and berries at first then kept going with the vibrant colours. It looks so artsy and eye catching. You really should like this one x.
I think the card is very festive. It is nice to see ribbon used on cards still, I really like it, even though people don’t use it as much anymore.
I am so sorry about your thumb! Hope you are fully healed soon!
This is gorgeous, love the fab design. I hope your thumb heals soon.xxx
I really do like the colors of your card with those white holly leaves and berries! What a fantastic look, and I am so sorry about your thumb. I use a meat cleaver to cut open squash after having a few near misses myself through the years!
Gosh, Verna, the first thing I thought when your card popped up was "THIS IS GORGEOUS!" and immediately, I looked at the vibrant citrusy color combination with those fabulous "resisting" holly images. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your creation in every way! Imagine my wry smile when I read that you weren't sure if you like this card or not. Too funny! I've never seen anything similar to your creation, and it really is quite striking and FUN! It reminds me of the warmth and glow of a cracking fire on a chilly evening. Hoping your little thumb is soon not throbbing and on the mend. hugs, de
I like the bright colors!
What a cool background... Love it and so glad you posted it! I hope your thumb is all better now. I mean you're back to crafting so I know it's better but oh that's the worst!
I am glad your thumb is healing by now. It is awful how even the slightest illness affects our whole bodies. Your card is wonderful. One stunning background!
Love all of the happy colors on this Verna, so sorry to hear about your thumb. I know I have come close while cutting butternut squash before.
