September Twofers

Time again to do my Twofers for Darnell's Twofer Challenge #9. This time we are to use a leaf two different ways or for two different types of cards. I chose to do a Fall one and a Christmas one with my leaf. The leaf used was one from the Gina K. Designs Fancy Flowers set.

For the Fall card design I masked off the area I wanted to sponge color on. I chose to  use shades of yellow for the main sponged area. Next I then took the leaf and using a Hero Arts Ombre Autumn ink pad I stamped the leaves. After I had all the leaves on my design like I wanted them I then took a black ink marker and with a ruler drew a faux layer along each side. The sentiment was stamped in black and it is from the Joy Clair Harvest Blessings stamp set.

The card base for my Christmas design is white but I used the Gina K. Designs Diagonal Stripe  background stamp to create a plaid design with the green and red colors. I took a sentiment from the Gina K. Designs Holly Jolly stamp set and stamped that onto a rectangle that I had die cut using Gina K. Designs single stitched die. That die cut was added to another larger rectangle from the same set in the green color. The sentiment was then placed onto the lower right corner. For the poinsettia I used a masking technique to make it and then cut it out by hand and popped it  up onto the upper left corner making it so that it slightly overlapped the sentiment panels.  The last thing I added to the card was some yellow pearls on the poinsettia center.

I did not think I was going to get to finish my Twofers today as we discovered that we had several cantaloupe that needed to be cut up and refrigerated. There were so many that I went online and found a recipe for Cantaloupe bread but instead of making it into loaves I opted to make it into one carb choice muffins. Not bad tasting too. And, a great way to use some of the over ripe melon.

Well. that is enough activity for today. I think I will take the lazy route and fix a pizza in the oven for supper. Along with some lettuce salad it should make a good meal. I hope your day went well and that you got some productive crafting in. Thanks for the visit and until next time take care.

God bless,
Verna

Such clever use of that leaf image for your rich, bold poinsettia, Verna ... it's so festive against the Christmassy plaid! Gorgeous tumbling leaves on your Happy Fall card ... the dimension and depth you created is fantastic ... seems they're floating in a pool of gold! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Twofer! Hugs, Anita :)

Very clever cards, Verna! Love how you've used those leaves on both of your cards. That Fall panel is beautifully done. Such pretty colors, too. Great Christmas card. That plaid background you've created really makes that pretty poinsettia stand out. Those leaves are perfect for this blossom! Thanks for joining us at the Twofer Challenge. Bev

I'm so jealous that you have all that cantaloupe. It is my favorite summer fruit and I can't get enough of it. Your twofer cards are great. I love that plaid pattern paper and the font on the Merry Christmas. The fall card is wonderful. Those colors are the best and I love the design.

These cards are awesome! Love the two different looks with that one leaf. I never would have seen a poinsettia out of the leaf but yours is amazing. What a great showcase for the stamp set. I'm also intrigued by your cantaloupe recipe. I will have to hit up Pinterest and check poke around a bit. Sounds awesome!

You are always so creative with Darnell's Twofer challenges Verna x

Your cards are so different in theme and looks and are a fabulous showcase to what the challenge is about.

Your first card looks fabulous with those wonderful blended colours. Great idea to use the black pen as a 'matting' layer. Loving your colour choice.
The Christmas card is clever and creative and Wow to the plaid background....such patience and so worth it.

The muffins sound wonderful and good on you to finding a way to use the over ripe melon up x.
Enjoy the weekend and the pizza x.

Beautiful use of the leaf for two very different cards, Verna! I don't know how that poinsettia could look anything more like a poinsettia. You are so creative! Nice way to minimize layers, too. And your plaid background! Could have fooled me. I'd think it was designer paper. Mmmmm, I love cantaloupe, and fresh off the vine must be amazing. I've never had it homegrown. Not much crafting going on here. We're leaving again on Sunday and busy busy till then.

Two awesome Twofer's! So clever too. I love your first card, the traditional fall card, so pretty and what autumn looks like. But your second card is crushing this challenge! I love how you took those beautiful leaves and made poinsettia out of them. So pretty too! I really thought it was a poinsettia stamp. lol I also love that background you created, again I thought it was a plaid paper. Well done on this challenge! Hugs, Brenda

Both beautiful leaf cards Verna. Love the fall coloured leaves. I bet it looks amazing IRL and what about that poinsettia. Who would have thought to use leaves? You did Verna and what a beautiful traditional Christmas card yo have made. Love them both.

The strip of tumbling leaves with the sunny background is really beautiful! And to use the leaf to create your own poinsettia is truly brilliant! Always love seeing what you come up with!
Great to see you in the Twofer gallery!

Great idea with the leaf for your twofer cards, Verna. I especially like the poinsettia one. I'm already thinking Christmas and its barely fall. Your melon bread sure sounds interesting. I have never heard of that before. Is it like a banana bread texture then?

Verna Angerhofer said...

The bread is similar to the texture of pumpkin bread more I think. Not quite as moist as banana bread. Since some had not heard of it and wondered I thought I would post this.

Another very successful twofer!

A beautiful set of Twofer cards AND cantaloupe muffins?! You are clever with your hands and mind, Verna, whether in your craft room or in your kitchen!! Your two designs are sensational! I love the masked panel and warm fall colors of your first card and, wow, that leaf made a perfect poinsettia for your pretty plaid Christmas card! It's lovely overhanging the sediment panel!! Thank you so much for playing in Twofer Card Challenge #9! Hugs, Darnell

Another example of your creative 'out of the box' designing. Really love the 'leaf poinsettia' all in reds & greens over that wonderful Christmas plaid background. The autumn shades of the CAS leaf card are stunning too! Well done, Verna. TFS & Hugs
