I sure don't care for Mondays that have no mail. It is such a let down not to get at least something in the mail and especially when I know some stamping goodies are on the way. But I guess that still means I can play anyway and so today I made two more cards using feathers. This is for Darnell's new Twofer Card Challenge #1-Feathers which I think is such a fun challenge. I try to at least make one of my cards a bit outside of the box and I think I accomplished that this time too.
And I am proud to say I used some NBUS (Never Before Used Schtuff) which is a phrase that Darnell coined. I know I have quite a supply of unused goodies so this time I used the Tim Holtz Bird Crazy and Dies sets and also the Tim Holtz Crazy Talk stamp set. That has wonderful sentiments and they work for all year around too.
The first card is just using the tail feathers of the bird image. I used some Tombow markers to add color directly to the stamp by just coloring the tail feathers in various shades and stamped them onto a white card stock strip for the flowers. I then took the Tombow markers and hand drew the stems and leaves. This was then added to a black panel in which I used a Fiskers decorative scissors to cut the scalloped edges. I added a gingham ribbon and then placed it on the A2 size white card base The last step was to add the sentiment in Versafine black ink.
This card used a leftover piece of Color Burst paper that I had done quite some time ago. It was cut in a circle using the Cottage Cutz double stitched circle die and then I also cut another larger circle from the same set in black. These were layered together and since I already had the gingham ribbon handy I added some of that. My bird was stamped on white card stock and then I colored it in with Tombow markers before die cutting it. This bird was then popped up over the edge of the circle. The last step was to add the sentiments.
Well, now that was fun! I thank Darnell so much for coming up with a challenge that makes us look twice at our stamps and maybe find a way to get more mileage out of them. I hope you look your stamps over and see if you can find fun ways of using them in a different way too.
Thanks for all the visits and comments. Stamping hugs to all of you.
God bless,
Verna

Now that is really thinking outside the box, Verna! First of all, two very nice cards. Love the Crazy Birds so much that it's crazy I don't have them. Love all the white space, your coloring, and the Color Burst background. But, oh, my gosh, using the tail feathers for flowers is brilliant! And you used NBUS -- double good! You have new goodies coming? That's so much fun!
Oh my goodness, Verna ... what a fabulous Twofer! That crazy bird is so much fun against the colour burst background ... and I love that you really stretched outside the box and made those delightful and deliciously CAS tail feather flowers! I had to look closely to find them! Thanks so much for playing along with us once again at Twofer! Anita :)
Brilliant idea to use those little tail feathers as flowers! So cute in both instances. Love the little crazy bird, especially against the colorburst background. Great ideas Verna!
How very clever of you to use just bird feathers for flowers. They look fabulous and so colourful. Your true bird card is so cute. Love the layout and again so colourful. Love your Twofer cards Verna.
Good job utilizing the feathers! You rocked this challenge!
These a are really fun Verna, and so perfect for the challenge. I hope I have time to play along too!
Oh my goodness-I would never have thought to use the tail as flowers--love it! 2 great cards for the challenge!
Now this flower card has got to be the most creative & clever use of a stamp! How brilliant to use this funky bird's tail feathers to make a string of flowers. Loved both of these, and both are colorful and just pure fun! I was so pleased to see you in the Twofer, and I think I've only used the Crazy Bird sets once! TFS & Hugs
Verna, What a clever use for those tail feathers! Love both cards... and am quite impressed with your creative use for that stamp. :)
Okay, Verna, my friend, now you are really "cooking with gas," as an old friend in Iowa used to say when a situation started really working out! The fact that you made me ask Hammy, "Oh, no, where's the Crazy Bird on Verna's flower card?!" gives you High Tens from both of us for your clever, clever, clever use of just the tail feathers (and drawing the stems) for your pretty spring TOY card! The Brusho birdie card is also very special and I love the way you 'twinned' your gingham ribbon on both designs!! Seriously MWAH! Thank you for playing again at Twofer ~ I am getting such a kick out of seeing you love it and rock it!! Hugs, Darnell
How very cool!! I love both of these and I especially love how you created those flowers! Beautiful cards!
I have to admit when I saw your card at Twofer, I was thinking, 'Where the heck are the feathers'..lol...very creative and now can't wait to see what the next challenge will be and how YOU incorporate that...you have me fascinated with this one...fun fun cards!
I am so PROUD of myself. I saw the tail feather just before I got to the part where you told which stamp was the same. I have to say: It was kind of like playing I Spy. Each card is an individual masterpiece.
Very clever take on the challenge, Verna! Congrats on your well-deserved win!!!
Verna!!! LOve your imagination, and ingenuity, too! Fabulous cards, well deserved win... congratulations!!!

Congratulations on your very well deserved win, Verna! Using the tail feathers as flowers is really thinking outside the box!
Whoo Hoo! Just had a chance to check Twofer out, and saw your fantastic cards were the winner at the first ever Twofer challenge. I have to say I agree with Our Darnell....the tailfeather flowers were so original in this design, and certainly extreme creative thinking out of the box! You had some good competition, as I scrolled through the other winners, but You came out ahead with your delightful feathers take! TFS & Congratulations.
Oh my goodness Verna - you are a genius! I love both cards and really appreciate your constant inspiration with your beautiful creations! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!
Congratulations on bing selected as the winner of the Twofer challenge. You have a gift for being able to see more than the obvious. Great job!
