I bought this Di-Versions Flying Santa image and after making a card with it my husband made a comment that made me decide not to use it any more.
Below is the first card I made with it and the comment my husband made was that it looked like the reindeer was taking a dump and it was heading right towards Santa. And, he also mentioned that the reindeer was way out of proportion to Santa and his sleigh too. So after looking it over I decided he had a point.
So this is what I did with that die. I die cut it like usual but then I did surgery on it and eliminated the deer and the moon. And, I think I might be able to send this card design to someone this Christmas whereas the first design I made will be forever tainted because of what my hubby pointed out. LOL
So what is your thoughts? I am curious if you see what my hubby did as well, And I tried to find a card made with this die on the internet and so far have not found one. So perhaps others found that an issue too. I adhered it so well to the card stock so I can't even loosen it to redo it. A positive of this die is that it cut like a charm so that was good.
Well, that is it for this week and I hope if nothing else that you got a laugh or two from this post.
Have a good weekend and God bless,
Verna

Your husband's comment made me smile. Until I read it, the image looked fine, but now I can't look at the image without chuckling! I like how you've adapted it for your second card. xx
I agree totally with Liz x
It made me smile and yes I think the poor reindeer is out of scale ...or Santa is thinking about the reindeer in his dreams in his think bubble...just a thought x
Love how you've done your second card and the silhouette Santa.
Have a lovely weekend Verna x
I have to agree with your hubby on this one! Reindeer reins do not attach to the reindeer's butt as this die depicts, but it's hilarious what we see that others don't! LOL What I found stranger than that is that the reindeer is way higher than the sleigh too, whereas he should be in front of the sleigh?Sometimes you just can't win, but the altered card looks better, except Santa's throwing stars in the sky now instead of guiding his reindeer into the light of the moon! You did good :)
I'm sorry to have to say this die is all wrong! It looks to me as though Santa is poking the reindeer in the butt with a stick, the reindeer is way too small and it's in the wrong position. However, your surgical procedure produced good results. I did get a giggle, but at the same time it's maddening that anyone would sell a die like this. It's funny that I don't really notice these things in the picture of the die package, but it's plain as day once it's cut and on a card. I like what Carol said about Santa throwing stars into the sky. You could also cut the die, do your surgery, then cut it out again with a circle die or frame it with a negative circle so you see just the upper part of the sleigh with Santa. I have a stamp set that has Santa in his sleigh, but there is no reindeer in the set at all. I didn't notice that until I sat down to work with it. Cute set, but it seems odd with no reindeer. Good luck with it, Verna!
Thank your hubby for his comment, Verna! I karacked up! That die is definitely wrong on so many levels, not the least of which is that the reindeer looks like a cow! And he's stuck inside a snowglobe doing what your hubby suggested - right into Santa's hand! Thank goodness he was wearing gloves! I love your new version, especially since now it looks like Santa is tossing stars to the recipient!! Thanks for the fun!! Hugs, Darnell
I really like how you added so much detail to the silhouette style die cut. That must have taken a lot of time. I agree that the design of the die is a bit odd and that the size and position of the reindeer is not quite right. Maybe he's supposed to be further off in front of the sleigh so he appears smaller?? Anyway, after chuckling about what your husband said - lol - I got to thinking... (I hate the idea of you doing all that work and not wanting to use the card.) I wonder how it would look if you extended the line of the reins across his body to his neck area and added an additional sleigh portion of the die cut over the first one so it sits in front of the moon.
I really like your "fix" on the second version by eliminating the deer altogether. And the red die cut looks great on the fancy white background.
Could you possibly just cut the line so the deer is separate, and then use some bakers twine to attach to the right part of the deer? I am wondering how that would look...
Oh my goodness! Hubby certainly has a point! LOL. I think your second rendition has fixed the problem. Much better without the entire "cow jumping over the moon part"! As someone mentioned maybe you could continue the reigns to the front of the deer and take the front of the sleigh into the moon. Maybe also detach the stars from the moon, that way it won't look like the deer is in a deflating balloon!! Thanks for sharing!!
Okay, here's my take. I clicked on the die image first and looked at the three on the bottom. Yes, hubby is right and so are all the comments. Leslie's comment made me laugh so hard I had to look away from the comments until I caught my breath. She is exactly right, looks like Santa is poking him. I guess that's one way to make him go faster and that might be why he is so much higher than the sleigh. Wouldn't you be too if someone was poking you in the butt! Enough! Just saying! You saved the card and it is delightful.
Well this just made me laugh, Verna! Your husband's comment was so funny! I would not have thought that in looking at the card but once you hear the remark, now it's on your mind. I like how you fixed it. You can certainly still use the die and it will make you giggle each time. I do agree the reindeer seemed way too small to be pulling that sleigh!
OMGoodness, Verna, I just read some of the other comments and completely cracked up! Thank you all for the laughs!
hahaha! leave it to a man to point out butts and poop! Too funny - too bad the sleigh is not in front of the moon - it would change everything. But your remedy is great! xx
Too funny...gotta love hubby for pointing that out! I do love how you created a silhouette look for your second card.
I must be weird - all I could see looking just at the picture of the die package was a lobster or something turning on Santa. Good save, Verna.
Jeanne, I agree with you! I thought of a lobster, too, and was trying to figure out what that had to do with Santa! Once I read what your husband said, I could certainly see it, but I like your fix, Verna.
Must say, I do like the card without the deer--love the blue & red!
I see you are really in Christmas card mode! How inspiring! I am soooooo behind with them. That is one fun Santa!!!
lol! Men! I don't see the first vision (the dump...lolol!), however I guess the perspective would bother me... that being said, I love your second creation with it!
It is a bit off, maybe you could draw in a harness around the reindeer's neck and connect the reins that Santa is holding and then make sure the front of the sleigh is in front of the moon. You did a great job on your own just using the sleigh though...
I've been browsing your blog, after having seen your gorgeous cards for the Coffee Lovers hop, and came across this one. Oh my goodness..this just made me laugh! Poor Santa, and poor you (never being unable to un-see this major die-design gaffe!!). When I look at it carefully, I can actually see a possible way to "repair" the die so you can at least use it again. If you extend the reins from Santa to the reindeer all the way to the reindeer's face (like a bridle and bit) and draw it in dark, then it won't look like it's coming of his rear end. THEN, you can extend the front of Santa's sleigh to cover the moon shape a bit, so that the reindeer is in the distance, instead of on top of the sleigh. Fairly simple fix I think. I can't ever bear to waste a craft supply so probably put way too much thought into this, but I think it would work well enough to save this die. What do you think?! Still chuckling to myself over this whole post, and your husband's reaction!
Whoops! After I wrote that long-winded suggestion on a fix for this die, I saw that the commenter right before me suggested the same thing.
Looks like I'm not the only one who can't bear wasting supplies!
